GRACE MUGABE: THE DEPRECIATION OF BOTTOM POWER IN AFRICA
Grace Mugabe at a rally |
Little wonder Since 1994, Zimbabwe had been operating solely
on bottom politics from the exterior of the government house, even with a first
family that no one dared name “Omo Ale”, a derogatory term that the Yoruba’s of
West Africa label children that are born out of wedlock.
Mrs. Grace Mugabe had
been exploiting the full use of this bottom clout to usurp power in Zimbabwe,
oblivious to Robert Mugabe and everyone else who had thought of the president as
the mean spirited leader. The cloud was clear penultimate week, when the Lion
of Zimbabwe sheepishly signed his resignation papers after 37 years of dictatorship.
Madam Mugabe is an ambitious woman, a true African daughter
who is not afraid to use what she has to get what she wants; starting with an
affair with the President even while his terminally ill wife was still alive.
Fast forward to her reign as First Lady of Zimbawe, This
bottom power ran many deals aground as well influenced major decision of the Government
of Zimbabwe, as evidenced after her enrollment in the university to earn a
doctorate degree which was supposed to last about 3years; she made it in three
months. Suffice to say that her husband, the President who also doubles as the Vice
Chancellor of the university of Zimbabwe, was made happy one night and a PhD
emerged the next morning.
Now, who can blame the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari who
purportedly restricted his wife to “the other room”, he knew the smashing young
woman will be lured to power and subsequently topple him from power just like
his predecessor’s did.
It can’t be determined however if the position of head of ZANU-PF
party women’s wing was derived from this same bottom power or from the love of
the women for madam Mugabe, though the ex Zanu-PF woman leader, Bossoppah Muchinguri said she had been pressured
by a lot of people to give up the title. Especially after the first lady
allegedly unleashed thugs on her, allegedly!
One thing is sure though, Gucci grace as aptly dubbed by
Zimbabweans because of her expensive lifestyle, successfully heaved the opposition
away from the seat of power just by seating her powerful buttocks on the same
seat with them. Unwary they got toppled away. Victims of this bottom power
included Joice Mujuru, erstwhile vice president who got toppled out of power in 2014, accused of corruption,
lying and gossiping, collaboration with opposition forces to undermine
country’s post independence gains. Emmerson
mnagwagwa’s surprisingly bounced back however, much to everyone’s shock, hence
the theory of Africa bottom power is now being reviewed by several scholars.
Alas, it’s only Jesus’ power that saves, for despite the
weight of Madam Mugabe’s buttocks, it couldn’t save her or husband from the
impending doom that finally befell them on 14th November, 2017.

Rest assured however, that bottom power still works
individually as former president Mugabe reportedly insisted on exchanging Grace’s
freedom for political power before his resignation, content to spend the
remaining days of his life tending to bottom power.
