PAYBACK IS A BEE
PAYBACK IS A BEE
“Payback is
a bee, a bee that stings you just before it spews you a warm spray of honey”
This quote
was contained in a statement released by the victims of the Nigeria civil war
who recently sniffed a portion of the Federal Government allotted grievance
settlement sum of N88 Billion naira.
It's safe to
say that the Nigeria civil war was won in 2017, by the Biafra Mine victims of
the war who had approached the Ecowas Community
Court of Justice in 2012.
PAYBACK IS A BEE: ECOWAS COURT SITTING |
The ruling
which was held on Monday, 24th of October 2017, granted an out of
court settlement for both the Federal Government and the victims of the Civil
War.
The magnanimity of the Federal
Government of Nigeria is awe inspiring, to say the least, for her citizens had
to approach the Ecowas court in order to plead for the removal of remnants of
war instruments stockpiled in 11 states of the South-East, South-South and part
of the North-Central. Keep in mind; these remnants included live bombs,
abandoned unexploded ordnances (AXO), unexploded ordnances (UXO) and the
explosive remnant of war (ERW).
The wonderful news is that
all the internally aggrieved people of Biafra can now unite to make claims of the
inhuman treatments they were put through pre and post the Nigeria civil war,
get some hotshot lawyer and approach the International Criminal Court. Of
course they have to raise the bar so that this time their claims will be paid
in foreign currency.
We the supporters of the
country that barely existed also wish to state and express our affiliations
with the non-sovereign Country, even though the Federal Government didn’t take
cognizance of the millions affected in other ways by this war except for the identified
86 victims.

we must however open the eyes of our understanding
according to the gospel of the nearly defunct Labor party, shine your eyes
because “sukunmus siranmus “ : a man
that cries must still see.
Part of the terms of the
settlement instructs that the federal government “undertakes to pay, without delay
(45 days maximum), compensation in the sum of N50 billion in full and final sum
to the victims, their families and communities as contained in Schedule 4(1) of
the terms of settlement”.
Surprisingly the Academic Staff
Union of Universities, ASUU, reacted when they heard this good news “dear
victims, please hold our coffee cup” they said. The department of cryptic code breaking
is assiduously trying to decipher this message.
The court also ruled “That the
Federal Government should undertake to pay of a total sum of N38 billion as contained
in schedule 4(2) to the terms of settlement for the purposes of carrying out
total demining and destruction, rebuilding of public buildings, Mine Centre
activities, construction of class rooms, provision of prosthetics and all other
activities itemized thereunder,”.
There are 302 affected
locations across 10 states where the instruments are buried.
The states are Abia, Benue,
Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Anambra and Imo states.
* "Sukunmu Siranmu" a slang used by kegites (palm wine drinkers club) which denotes inebriation does not equal loss of sense.
