LABAF 2017, PANORAMA OF LITERARY FUN
The 19th edition of the Lagos Book and Art Festival 2017, was an altogether thrilling experience, which kicked off with book readings from Authors published in 2017, reading excerpts from their books at the British Council, on Monday 6th of November, 2017.
Authors, who read from their books include Ololade Ajayi, “We The People”, Aduke Gomez “Now That I’m Here, Let Me Quickly Tell You About”, Bayo Olupohunda “Are You Not A Nigerian”, Chuma Nwokolo “The Extinction of Menai” amongst several others.

The festive mood lasted for a whole week with notable literary giants in attendance at the event including Odia Ofeimun, Poet and Political Activist, Professor Niyi Osundare (Festival Guest of Honor), Senior Advocate of Nigeria and activist, Femi Falana, , veteran actor Olu Jacobs, seasoned actresses Joke Silva and Taiwo Ajayi Lycett, Former 1st lady of Ekiti State and wife of the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Bisi Adeleye Fayemi amongst otherliterary icons.
The author’s convention on Friday, 10th of November at Freedom Park in Lagos, proved to be an highly interactive and educative session with authors discussing their work with the audience who critiqued and highlighted some parts of their work. The convention featured Bisi Adeleye Fayemi who read from her new non-fiction collection “Loud Whispers” and Bayo Olupohunda from his book “Are You Not A Nigerian”, A satiric collection chronicling Nigeria’s fourth attempt at democratc governance after years of military dictatorship.

Also featured was Ololade Ajayi, who read a poem titled Abalaye, the aborigine in her native Ekiti dialect, from her book “We the People” to a rousing applause from the audience as several Ekiti indigines happened to be in the audience.
The event can be aptly described as a huge cultural and literary festival soaked with intense celebrations of ideas, culture music and other form of revolutionary art. Kudos however must be accorded to the organizers of the event, especially the Committee for the Review of Arts (CORA) among other art and culture enthusiast .
The festival closed on Sunday 12th of November, with promises of a bigger and better platform for the 2018 edition of The Lagos Book and Art Festival which will be LABAF’S 20th anniversary.
