BIAFRA: WHILE DANCING, A COUNTRY VANISHED!

BIAFRA: WHILE DANCING, A COUNTRY VANISHED!
The great novelist, Chinua Achebe once affirmed that there
was a country named Biafra. this statement is true, especially in recent times
when National geographic wild moved its headquarters to Abia State, South east
Nigeria, to the delight of its viewers. This Nigerian reality television version
of a dance between humans and reptillic
creatures is quite conventional; after all we are all animals. Unfortunately,
the lead cameraman, Nnamdi Kanu has refused to reveal himself for an insight at
the backstage reaction.
The Nigeria Army can be aptly described as skilled set of
dancers. they dance to any tune they are struck to, yesterday the melody was: “you
are terrorists”, today: “you never had an existing chance” even as they glide,
slough their skin and move in for the exhilarating kill, hence the term
“operation python dance” was widely accepted by the Nigeria populace.

The Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) however, has made its intention known
to Nigerians. Yes they want secession, which to the average Nigerian means: become
independent, break away, pull out or withdrawal. This meaning has been termed
ambiguous by the Federal Government of Nigeria who claim to know its true meaning.
Hear the president: Secession-
an agitation by political opponents and mischief makers trying to cause ruckus
by insinuating marginalization and unfair treatment thereby inciting calls for breakdown
of law and order.
Meanwhile the Presidents’ spokesman has revealed another
meaning to marginalization. Listen to him: marginalization, as understood from
our perspective, is not the ostracizing that the IPOB term it but rather a case
of strategic placement of a particular set of people you can trust in positions
of power so as not to oppose or nurse any ambition against you. Fair is fair
you must agree.
Conflicting oxford terms led to a ruckus, hence the dance of
dragons commenced as IPOB became a labeled terrorist. As a Yoruba adage says “omo ale ni ounje o tobe” meaning “ you
dare not” is only adhered to by bastards”.
Call my mother names and expect me not to retaliate? no way! Therefore
IPOB took to the streets pirouetting in
terrorists-like manner, except they only wielded Salsa dance instruments, comparably
minimal to instruments used by their dance partners, grandmasters of Ballet dancehall
also known as the Nigeria Army, who simply waltzed the leader of the IPOB nation
into oblivion.
Just in case you want to yell: inhuman treatment! Operation crocodile
smile has been sent to your catchment area, this is a Federal Character
Assignation. They will get to all regions soon enough. As Pius Adesanmi
described in a tweet, we are now militarizing civilian spaces.
The President cannot be bothered by these gnats like issues
though, he has other pressing issues, like unidentifiable ailments that requires
secret attention, therefore State Governors finally has the opportunity of
fully unleashing their powers, else a
state of emergency might just darken the bright spot in their careers.
Restructuring and referendum
on the other hand seems like such a boring word, compared to heated words like secession
and marginalization which needs a little blood to give it life.
If Restructuring would
imply devolution of power then pardon
our national representatives’ lethargy, for there is more sauce on the central
table as it is at the moment, why consider the majority of mass beneficiaries? Nobility
such as that displayed by David Cameron of the Brexit phenomenon is simply nonexistent
here.
The python has however gotten bored and gone back to its
cave, having displayed just a few dance steps, IPOB lawyers took the music from
the ball room to the courtroom, as their principal salsa spinner, Nnamdi Kanu vanished
into thin air and president Buhari gyrated from a distance refusing to lend his
sonorous voice to the music until Nigeria’s independence day.
All these should give a lot of hot blooded easterners who
were hitherto silent a blaring voice. The question we need to ask ourselves
however revolves around the same issues we have been edging since 1967 which
urgently needs to be addressed.
1. Secession: Justification and
sustainability. (Considering majority of Ndigbo does not support this agitation
and the low number of oiel producing states
in the carved out region).
2. Marginalization: If our grouse is
marginalization, Which term do we choose first? Restructuring, appointments of easterners into
key positions in this administration or ousting the Hausa Fulani host to be
replaced with an Ndigbo)?
3. State creation: will the creation of
more eastern states address the
perceived imbalance that seems to favor the north giving it undue advantages
especially in legislative matters.
4. Referendum: is there a possibility of
a successful referendum being honored in our Nation even as International bodies
such as Spain and Catalonia are muddling up the process?
5. Genocidal redress: What can be done
to address the grievances of unwilling victims of the Nigeria civil war? ( Gowon’s
pet project, NYSC certainly did not),Which Nigerian leader will implement a
true reconciliatory effort
6. Proper historical documentation: War
is two sided therefore there should be voices agitating for the atrocious
crimes committed by Biafran soldiers against ethnic minorities ((Delta, Cross
River and Akwa Ibom states amongst others) This is an uncomfortable discuss
especially amongst pro Biafrans.
7. Is this all a ruckus to remix Achebe’s
rhetoric to read as: there was a country that
vanished while dancing.
